Unprecedented: 7,000 college students complete intensive English course

Almost 7,000 college students who completed the Higher Education Ministry’s English Immersion for Competitiveness Program graduated on Saturday.
Vice president Margarita Cedeno, who led the commencement ceremony, told the graduates that it was a great step in their life, achieving a tool that will open many doors to masters’ degrees abroad, and internationalize their knowledge.
Speaking in the Dominican capital’s Duarte Olympic Center, the official noted that a November 2010 survey found that most of the graduates of those programs were able to get higher paying jobs.
Higher Education minister, Ligia A. Melo, announced 200 of the graduates will be given the opportunity to perfect their English at Utah State University in 2013, and that they expect to graduate around 13,000 in 2013.
