Rise in Tourism

The Dominican Republic continues to be an attractive proposition for tourists, with a 7.25% rise in the arrival of nonresident visitors in the first two months, compared with the same period last year.
Last month’s 446,203 visitors were mostly from the U.S., Canada and South America.
Tourist arrivals grew 9.47% just in February, or 5.04% higher than in January, paced by the European market which includes Russians, which figure as the highest number of additional visitors with 11,403, followed by France (2,356), Holland (1,281) and Germany (1,142).
The figure is in the Central Bank’s last report on Tourism Flow 2012, which reveals that 876,395 tourists arrived in the country in January and February, “a performance which results from the joint efforts carried out by the Tourism Ministry and the private sector.” they commented.
More than 8,000 of these tourists attended this year’s fifth annual Punta Cana Carnival, an event that showcases folklore and culture, organized by the Punta cana Group, with the collaboration of the Union Vegana Carnaval.
