After Everest sojourn, adventurer hints at Antarctic expedition

Although it is only11months since reaching the summit of Mount Everest, adventurer Federico Jovine hinted at organizing an expedition to become the first Dominicans to travel to the mainland of the Antarctic.
He called the up and coming sojourn “another challenge for the Dominican flag,” after the Everest success, but stated that it would start at year end. “I can tell you that it will be in December and a trekk of 10,000 kilometers.” he said.
Whilst being interviewed on Telesistema Channel 11, the adventurer also announced a second edition of his book “Soñando el Everest” (Dreaming Everest), on the successful expedition, together with Ivan Gomez and Karim Mella.
The actual destination of the sojourn has not been determined, and Jovine did not specify whether it would be to reach the South Pole, or would just be a journey across the antarctic mainland.

The communities will also work to improve waste management, while the authorities will provide trash cans and build a sanitary landfill and fund an anti-din campaign and promote sustainable fishing and tourism practices, and to observe the humpbacked whales.
In order to to guarantee implementation and follow-up of the pact and the Agenda, Samana’s key personalities have formed the Provincial Environmental Council to oversee all areas of the agreement.

Frontier to start Punta Cana-Pittsburgh service in August

It has been announced, that Frontier Airlines will add a seasonal service to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic from Pittsburgh, later this year.
The airline confirmed on Monday that, beginning Aug. 17th, it would fly between the Caribbean resort and Pittsburgh twice weekly, on Fridays and Mondays.
Flights on the airline’s Airbus twin-engine jets can be booked on Frontier’s website.
It isn’t the first time that Punta Cana has been served from Pittsburgh. Both AirTran Airways and USA3000 have had seasonal charter services in the past.
Frontier Airlines, is a low-cost airline, headquartered in Denver, Colorado, USA. The carrier, which is a subsidiary and operating brand of Republic Airways Holdings, operates flights to 76 destinations throughout the United States, Mexico, and Costa Rica and maintains a hub at Denver International Airport. It also provides a regional service to the surrounding Rocky Mountain States.

New baseball league for Dominican prospects

Kim Ng, senior vice president of baseball operations for Major League Baseball, has announced the launching of a new league. It is designed to provide for major league organizations to evaluate the top unsigned amateur players in the Dominican Republic.
“We hope that by including educational and community-outreach components in their participation, we will also prepare these players for opportunities that go beyond the playing field,” he added.
The new league will provide top amateur players with an opportunity to showcase their talents to potential future employers.
All games will be held on Thursdays, at major league academies throughout the Dominican Republic.
The league will include older players who are already eligible to sign, in addition to featuring players that will become eligible to sign professional contracts at the age of 16, when the international signing period begins on July 2nd.
