After more than 30 years, cruise ship visits Puerto Plata

Although it has been almost thirty years without a cruise ship in its port, the World Cruise, from the Bahamas arrived in Puerto Plata last Thursday, with 340 passengers on board.
The ship arrived at 7:30am where it was received by tourism and port authorities, after which the passengers toured visited historic sites and shops, spending thousands of dollars, all helping to boost Puerto Plata’s economy.
The construction company, Carnival Corporation, plans to start building a new cruise terminal next year in Puerto Plata, which can receive two ships simultaneously, with around 4,000 passengers.
“This will be a dynamic relaunch of cruise tourism, which started here in the eighties and nineties,” said Deputy Tourism Minister Cesar de los Santos, adding that Puerto Plata port can expect as many as 2,000 cruise tourists weekly until February.
